About
I spend most of my days and far too many of my nights working on my second novel, prepping for class, and grading papers. Somewhere in between all that, I eat junk food and shower (even though a bath is more productive, creatively speaking. Just keep a pad and pen right by the tub and with soggy fingers write down the next scene. Not that I’ve ever done that….) I’m currently represented by the fabulous Richard Curtis. For more about me, my writing, and to read an excerpt of my fantasy novel, Devouring Winter, please click here.
As for “academic me”–my university courses focus on writing about the strange convergence of fantasy, the surreal, horror, beauty, and humor–i.e., the grotesque, and how this plays out in art, literature, and film. So, you can see how my writing life influences my academic life, and vice versa.

I also own a sheltie. This has nothing to do with any of the above, but it’s something you should know about me. Some people are cat people. Others are dog people. I definitely am the latter.

Never give up on your passions!!! :)
Hi, Nancy,
Thought that I would pop over here and see the digs. Nice. You have a really neat concept with that story. I can see how Richard was drawn to it. Of course, he is the master of fantasy. Good luck. And I hope you build a huge fan base. Something tells me that you’ll have a nice audience very soon.
Chris
We have so much in common. I will often avoid grading papers by revising my novesl, or avoid revising my novels by grading papers. It all depends. But it’s all good if I have chocolate!
Chocolate makes everything better–both writing and grading :)
I had a sheltie growing up! I love shelties! Now we have a mixed breed mutt — part heeler, part lab, and part who knows?
(And possibly I am a dog person as well, although I do have a cat. But don’t tell the cat. He’s mean.)
I so enjoyed meeting you at the con in Dallas — see you in a few months in Austin.
Yeah, shelties are the best (and mine isn’t yappy at all :)
I’m already looking into plane tix for Austin. I would love to make World Con too–we’ll see how the old budget holds up…
